Stimulus and You

What Does the Federal "Stimulus" Mean for You?

Expert explains implications for business and industry

SANFORD - If you believe widespread media reports, the federal spending package designed to stimulate the economy passed with few people ever reading the entire bill.

Now, as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 begins to filter down from Washington, the big question remains: What, exactly, is in the mammoth legislation and how will it impact business and individual taxpayers?

"Stimulus And You" takes a close look at the spending bill and what it could mean for your bottom line. Ron Wainwright, a tax member in the Raleigh office of the Dixon Hughes accounting firm, will provide his analysis on Apr. 21 at noon for the Committee of 100's quarterly luncheon at Chef Paul's in Sanford.

Wainwright plans to begin with an overview of the federal legislation before moving on to discuss tax changes expected under President Barack Obama's recently-proposed federal budget and tax policy issues facing the nation.

He then moves closer to home, with an in-depth examination of Gov. Beverly Perdue's currently-proposed state budget and its tax implications for North Carolinians.

With more than 25 years of experience in taxation, Wainwright has spent his career in public accounting, serving corporations in manufacturing, technology, telecommunications and service. He assists clients with tax compliance, suggests potential tax-saving techniques and has experience in planning, organizing and writing strategic and operational plans.

Wainwright holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Auburn University and Master of Taxation from Georgetown University, serves on the board of several nonprofit organizations and is a trustee of Wake Technical Community College. He has been listed in "Who's Who in American Business Leaders" and among the Bureau of National Affairs' Top 250 Tax Practitioners.

All Committee of 100 meetings are open to the public. The cost, including lunch, is $15 per person for the general public and $10 per person for members. For reservations or information, contact Jane Haber at the Lee County Economic Development Corp., 919-774-8439 or info@lcedc.com.

The Committee of 100 is an organization of business leaders committing time, energy and resources to enhance the economic well-being of Lee County and its citizens. Corporate and individual members assist the Lee County Economic Development Corp. by establishing venture capital projects to expand local industry, helping to promote economic growth and enhancing working relationships among government, business and the community.
